ABOUT the Approach

See the Pattern. Change What Happens Next.

Most resilience advice basically tells you to try harder and build habits.

But you can't “willpower” your way past a reflex.

Underneath your reactions that trip you up in the moments that matter is a pattern we call the Invisible Loop™... what happens, how you read it, and what you do next.

Our four EDGE pillars, Exhale, Decode, Ground, and Explore, are how we work with that pattern instead of against it, whether the work takes the shape of coaching, training, or advisory or self-directed tools.

I Don’t Assume You Need “Fixed” - I know you have a biological reality shift and that you need insight and validation…maybe you need a tool or a new skill, but never that you need “fixed.”

We start from a place that looks at where you are and what’s happening:

  • What rooms are you moving through and what are they signaling

  • What is your brain doing with that information

  • Where the two get fused together and what story is the internal interpreter telling you

Sometimes you need to do the work; sometimes you have to look at the systems and the rooms in which you are standing and take a long hard look.

But, you never decide which it is before you actually understand what’s going on.

The key is the “data”

If you see a pattern once you’ll feel great, but nothing will change…and that’s not very good.

The real work is building your energy and ability to catch your thought or see the trigger when it happens, in the moment that actually matters, and pick something other than your normal, autopilot default reaction.

That's the skill.

And skills takes practice.

What you build, you keep, long after the session ends.

The Science Behind the System

The Invisible Loop™

Understanding Your 200-Milisecond Autopilot

Before you consciously make a choice, your brain has already reacted based on years of conditioning and high-functioning defaults. The Invisible Loop™ helps to explain this automatic cycle so you can make different decisions before it drains your energy.

There are (5) Key elements:

  • The External Room and what we’ve been conditioned to “hear” and “believe” - our triggers

  • The Internal Interpreter and how the Autopilot translates the external signals

  • The 200-millisecond Crossing Point

  • Our Autopilot, patterned, knee-jerk responses

  • The power of metacognition and choice architecture as deliberate mechanisms to change the cycle

This model helps to explain:

  • Why willpower fails: The real reason pushing through only drains your physical battery and leaves you running on empty.

  • The interruption point: Exactly where to step into the cycle so you can see your automatic reactions and start to protect your energy.

Ever wonder why you agree to take on a task, fix a problem, or say "yes" before your brain even registers that you are already exhausted? In this 5-minute video, Dr. Shannan Simms breaks down the Invisible Loop—the automatic reaction that triggers in less than a second, trapping you in over-functioning before you consciously make a choice.

THE E.D.G.E Framework

Seeing the Loop is one thing. Doing something with it, in the moment that matters, is another.

The EDGE Framework is the “how.”

Four principles and non-linear moves:

Exhale, Decode, Ground, and Explore

…that turn a split-second reaction into a deliberate choice.

EXHALE

Release chronic hyper-vigilance and stop treating exhaustion as a prerequisite for success.

DECODE

Audit your over-functioning systems and separate out the external system signals from your internal interpreter narrative, through the lens of your current state biological and real-world realities.

GROUND

Replace brute-force willpower with different “choice-architecture” decisions based on your real-world energy and your biological realities.

EXPLORE

Test and adjust to direct your energy where you need it and to get yourself back on your priority list.
